Behind The Scenes
Quick Like a Bunny – Honda CBR 600rr
“We’re problem solvers” – Vita Brevis
For VBF, shooting in Utah is always a pleasure. After years of visiting the Salt Flats, the importance of not wearing all black remains an afterthought. All we can hope for is that at least half the crew will remember to apply sunscreen or practice proper hydration, and most importantly of course, keep our cameras from overheating. Honda flew in Shunji Yokokawa and his crew to race the CBR600RR. They didn’t speak any english and none of us speak Japanese. However, we stacked some tires, pulled out our cameras and got someone on the phone who could. We’re problem solvers.
The language barrier definitely left us unsure if our wild antics were pleasing to our exotic visitors, but there were some smiles, and we took that as a good sign. Most importantly we got some great content and were able to document Shunji as he achieved one of this childhood dreams.
We shot Shunji and his team with a set of Canon cinema lenses, and a Angenieux Optimo 24-290mm Zoom Lens. A pair of R3D epics and various amounts of ND were attached. The still photography was taken with a Canon 5D MIII with a 24-70mm lens. This was our final shoot with our beloved Action Products steadicam, before we switched to the Movi.
